saving time and money with HP Instant Ink

I have become a big fan of automated services. Automatic bill pay, birthday reminders, Amazon subscribe and save, and for two years now, the ink for my printer gets automatically shipped to me when it’s running low through HP Instant Ink. Some automations just add a convenience factor, but the even better ones save me money, and this is one of the even better ones.

So the basic gist of it is that my printer (I have and love the HP ENVY 5530) monitors my ink levels and when it’s low sends that info via WiFi so that HP knows to send me a new cartridge. I always have the new cartridge ahead of when I need it, and because I signed up for the biggest plan ($9.99/month for 300 pages) a page only costs me 3.3 cents to print (b/w OR color)! Unused pages roll over so, for example, I haven’t been printing much lately and had a bunch of rollover pages, which came in handy today when I printed 250 programs for a funeral service. Printing these cost me a whopping $13.25 (paper and print costs combined). I’m sure it would have been a lot more had I sent it to a print shop.

In the past I’ve printed baby shower invitations, a friend’s wedding invitations, my Christmas card envelopes (yay for not hand addressing but them still looking super snazzy!), plus the usual Amazon returns, stuff for the kids, etc…

Printers that work with this program start around $50 and they all seem to have great reviews on Amazon. The best seller is this one very similar to mine – the HP Envy 4520 Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer with Mobile Printing.

If you already have an HP printer you can check and see if it’s compatible here. If you don’t, you can wait till the ink runs out on your current printer and put those $$ towards a new printer that will save you money in the long run!! (isn’t it crazy how most home printers don’t cost much more than the ink cartridges that go in them?!)

Bottom line, I love the money savings and the fact that I don’t have to think about it ever or run out and buy new ink cartridges at the last minute.
